Workstations for rendering, simulation and local AI
Three machines for sustained heavy work: a Core i9-13900K tower, a dual 16-inch workstation laptop and a dual-screen Core i9 laptop.
Read the full introduction
This collection is about sustained load rather than short bursts. The Forge 9 tower carries an i9-13900K, 64 GB of DDR5 and a choice of RTX 4090, RTX 4060 or GTX 1660 for rendering, simulation and local inference. The Studio 16 Duo pairs an i5-12450H with two 16-inch touch panels for editing and design. The Studio i9 Duo puts a Core i9-10885H behind a dual-screen touch layout for CPU-heavy development work.
Two of the three are quoted on request: the Forge 9 because Vidar publishes no price, and the Studio i9 Duo for the same reason. That is a feature of the sourcing, not a sales tactic — a workstation quote has to name the exact GPU and storage, so a headline figure would be misleading.

What separates these machines
- Start from the software, not the badge: name the renderer, solver or model, then choose a GPU tier.
- A desktop tower (Forge 9) wins on sustained clocks and repairability; a workstation laptop wins on being portable between sites.
- Memory above 32 GB matters for large scenes, containers and datasets; 64 GB is offered on the Forge 9 and the i9 laptops in the gaming range.
- Two 16-inch panels (Studio 16 Duo) suit editing; many cores (Forge 9, Studio i9 Duo) suit compiling and simulation.
- No warranty, service level or benchmark is published for these machines — those are quotation terms, not catalogue features.
Questions about workstation & ai pcs
Can these machines run local AI models?
The Forge 9 offers RTX 4090, RTX 4060 or GTX 1660 graphics and 64 GB of DDR5, which is the right shape of hardware for local inference. We publish no model sizes, token rates or benchmark figures because none has been measured here.
Which is better, the tower or the laptop?
The tower for sustained work at one desk: it can take a larger GPU and a hard disk for archive. The laptops for work that moves. Nobody can choose for you without knowing where the work happens.
Do the workstations include a monitor?
No. The Forge 9 is a tower and the Studio models are laptops; monitors, keyboards and mice are separate purchases.
Why are two of the three quoted?
Vidar publishes no price for the Forge 9 or the Studio i9 Duo. The Studio 16 Duo has a published band, which is shown on its product page, though the exact configuration price still comes from a written quote.
